THE LEADNo. 16 Dallas Baptist dropped game two of a double-header and the series finale to Bradley, 11-6, on Saturday night at Horner Ballpark. After taking the first two games of the series, DBU (26-7, 8-4) could not hold off a Bradley offensive assault that notched 13 hits and scored double-digit runs for the first time in 2015 versus the Patriot pitching staff.Â
Â
For the third straight game, the Patriots fell behind 3-0 in the early going before getting on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second. Down 3-1 in the third, DBU struck for three runs to take a 4-3 advantage, but that lead would be short-lived, as Bradley's, Chris Godinez, ripped a two-run home run to left.
Â
After an Evan Gruener double put the Braves (22-9, 3-3) up 6-4, Godinez blasted another two-run shot over the wall in left. Bradley would eventually add two more runs in the seventh inning to go up 10-4.
Â
Having gone through the Patriots' starting pitcher,
Jay Calhoun, who lasted just one-and-two-third innings, as well as relievers,
Chance Adams,
Landon Wilson, and
Drew Smith, the Braves were able touch
Brandon Koch for a run in the eighth.Â
Â
Down 11-4 in the bottom of the eight,
Drew Turbin laced a double into the gap in left-center, scoring both
Nash Knight and
Chane Lynch. The Patriots would not be able to draw any closer though, as Bradley closer, Matt Dennis, retired DBU in order in the ninth.
Â
