Patriots' Win Streak Snapped by Oklahoma State

THE LEAD
No. 9 Dallas Baptist lost for just the tenth time in 49 games this year, as the Patriots fell 11-2 to No. 13 Oklahoma State on Tuesday night at Horner Ballpark.  The Cowboys scored nine runs over the final four innings to break open a one-run game, as  DBU (39-10) saw their 10-game win streak come to an end.  On a night in which Oklahoma State (32-16) totaled just eight hits, DBU hit four batters, walked five, and committed two errors, helping lead to nine of the Cowboys 11 runs.

OSU struck first in the top of the third, when the Cowboys touched DBU starter, Sean Stutzman, for a pair of runs.  The Patriots responded in their half of the third, as David Martinelli blasted a solo home run over the wall in left for his team-leading ninth round-tripper of the year.

With OSU leading 2-1 into the top of the fifth, a lead-off walk to Jacob Chappell opened the door to a three-run inning.  A two-run single by Ryan Sluder off of Patriot reliever, Drew Smith, proved to be the key hit of the inning, as it staked the Cowboys to a 5-1 lead.

In the sixth, Smith hit the first two batters he faced and both would eventually come around to score on a sacrifice fly and wild pitch.  OSU tacked on four more runs in the eighth, as three walks, an error, and a hit batter led to the Cowboys opening up an 11-1 advantage.

The Patriots only other run came in the bottom of the eighth, when Tagg Duce's infield single plated Drew Turbin.

DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER – ON THE LOSS AND MOVING FORWARD
"You can't afford to give a good team like Oklahoma State the kind of opportunities we gave them tonight.  This is a resilient group though and sometimes it's a loss like this that can refocus a team and I'm confident that's what this loss will do and we'll be ready to go back to work tomorrow."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
5 – Number of OSU batters hit tonight.
4 – Total hits by DBU.
0 – The first four batters in the Patriot order did not pick up a hit tonight (0-for-13)
