THE LEADNo. 13 Dallas Baptist completed a three-game sweep and extended their current win streak to seven games with a 6-5 win over UNC Charlotte on Sunday at Hayes Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. A five-run fifth inning for the Patriots opened up a 5-0 lead for DBU (36-9) and
Brandon Koch held off a 49ers comeback to earn his 13th save of the year, as the junior righty tossed two-and-two-third scoreless inning to close out the game.
Â
Scoreless into the top of the fourth, a two-out single by
Nash Knight through the middle scored the game's first run. After
Justin Wall drove in his 10th run of the series on an RBI single in the fifth and
Trooper Reynolds drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, Knight was at it again with two outs. With two on and the count even at 1-1, Knight belted his first home run of the year on a towering shot down the left field line. The three-run blast opened up a 6-0 lead for DBU, as starter,
Sean Stutzman took the hill for his sixth inning of work.
Â
Stutzman would run into trouble in the sixth, as Charlotte (17-24) began to piece together a rally. With
Chance Adams on the hill in relief of Stutzman, who allowed four runs over five-plus innings, a two-run double by Zach Jarrett cut the Patriot lead to two. Charlotte's T.J. Nichting followed with a strikeout, but a wild pitch resulted in a throwing error to third by DBU catcher,
Daniel Salters, that sailed into left field and allowed Jarrett to score. Adams would end up working out of the jam, retiring the next three batters and preserving a one-run lead.
Â
In the bottom of the seventh and the tying run standing at second base,
Brandon Koch was called on from the Patriots' pen. Following a walk and a fielder's choice that put the tying run at third, Koch fanned Jarrett to get out of the inning.
Â
Koch would go on to work a scoreless eighth and ninth innings, recording four strikeouts to notch his 13th save of the year and 22nd save of his career. Koch is now just three saves away from tying both Chris Haney 's all-time school record for career saves and Ted Hebert and Clint Davis for the most saves in a single-season in school history. He's also two saves away from tying the single-season mark for the most saves in the school's NCAA Division I history, which dates back to 2004. That record is held by Chris Haney, with 15 saves during the 2011 season.

DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER – ON THE PATRIOTS' ROAD RECORD"Anytime you can go on the road and sweep a series that's huge. With the way the RPI is now and wins counting for 1.3 points away from home, it's a big plus to see what we've been able to do on the road this year and it helps to build our case as we get closer to the postseason."
