THE LEAD
A two-goal performance from freshman midfielder
Lindsey Washburn helped Dallas Baptist to a 2-0 win over No. 4 Colorado School of Mines in the season opener on Thursday. In front of a crowd of over 500 at Patriot Soccer Field, Washburn connected on her only two shots of the night to lead the Patriots (1-0-0) to a victory. The Orediggers are the highest –ranked team DBU has defeated in program history.
Washburn put the Patriots on the board in the 57th minute after freshman forward
Maddie Owen made contact on a free kick by junior midfielder
Cecily Martinez, setting up Washburn for the finish. She struck again 15 minutes later on a free kick that ricocheted off the bar and made its way to the back of the net. Senior goalkeeper
Jenna Ackerly made eight saves in her first career start for DBU.
