Patriots Defeat Oklahoma Christian 1-0 Behind Hoffman's Stellar Performance

THE LEAD
The Dallas Baptist University Men's Soccer team defeated Oklahoma Christian University, 1-0, on Thursday night at Patriot Soccer Field in Dallas, Texas. Jacob Garcia netted the eventual gamewinner just 59 seconds into the match, and a stingy Patriot defense, led by freshman goalkeeper Tyler Hoffman, held off the Eagles down the stretch.

In the first minute of the match, Garrett Morgan directed a header into the path of Jacob Garcia who placed the shot in the far left corner of the net, past Evan Helker. Helker made five saves in the match, and after sustaining an injury in the 56th minute, was replaced by Gary Goldsboro Jr.

Tyler Hoffman made seven saves in the match, including a crucial stop with just over six minutes to play in the match on a shot by Sergio Flores, who led the Eagles with four shots and two on goal.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - DBU snapped a six-game losing streak with the win.
 - Hoffman recorded his first collegiate shutout in just his fourth career start on Thursday.
 - The Patriots were outshot 18-13 in the match, but outshot the Eagles 8-6 on goal.

COACH CHIP DUTCHIK - ON SNAPPING THE LOSING SKID
"You have two options. You can say 'woe is me' or you can step up and battle, and our boys stepped up and battled. I think its huge for our confidence. It takes a spark to start a fire. We're ready to get on a good streak."

TYLER HOFFMAN - ON STEPPING UP FOR HIS TEAM AS A FRESHMAN
"It's huge for my confidence, personally. I haven't played a lot this year, so it's great being able to get in there and play well. It's good for the team going forward to Midwestern State."
