THE LEAD
The Dallas Baptist Men's Soccer team lost to No. 19 Midwestern State University, 1-0, on Saturday night at Patriot Soccer Field in Dallas, Texas. Freshman goalkeeper Tyler Hoffman recorded a program-record 14 saves in the match, limiting the Mustangs to just one goal in the 81st minute.
After a scoreless first half, Midwestern State came out firing in the second half, finally finding the back of the net when Antonio Hernandez found Sebastian Venegas, who dribbled into the box and put a shot past Hoffman into the top right corner.
The Patriots thought they had found the equalizer in the 89th minute, as
Garrett Morgan and Mustangs' goalkeeper Noah Fazekas battled for an open ball in the box that bounced to
Brooks Friedman. Friedman drilled a shot into the back of the net, but the goal was nullified by the referee due to interference with the goalkeeper.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Hoffman's 14 saves were the most made by a DBU goalkeeper since October 6, 2014, when Chuck Schober made 12 saves against Midwestern State.
 - The Patriots were outshot 15-6 in the second half.
 - DBU held the Mustangs' top two scorers, Gabriel Cavalcante and Chistian Okeke, scoreless in the match.
COACH CHIP DUTCHIK - ON BATTLING IN THE LOSS
"Losing is tough, but our boys stepped up and played with one of the best teams in the country. We were close to tying them, and possible beating them. Like I said last game, you can either say 'woe is me' or you can step up and fight, and our boys will fight and back down from nobody. That's a testament to the guys on the team. They're playing for each other. They're playing for DBU, and that means more than anything."
TYLER HOFFMAN - ON HIS THOUGHTS FROM THE LOSS
"Honestly, I'm just so proud for the team. Even though we lost, we played a heck of a game. It was a heck of a fight. We held them all the way."
