THE LEAD
The Dallas Baptist University Men's Soccer team defeated Texas A&M International University, 1-0, in extra time on Thursday night at Patriot Soccer Field in Dallas, Texas.
Billy Burford scored the gamewinner in the 104th minute to lift the Patriots over the Dustdevils.
DBU goalkeeper
Tyler Hofmann made a few crucial saves in regulation to keep the match scoreless, and the Patriots had an opportunity for a gamewinner in the 86th minute, when TAMIU goalkeeper Antonio Romero was sent off with a red card. DBU earned a free kick just outside the box, but
Riley Unger was unable to convert.
Hofmann continued to record big saves in extra time, totaling six in the match. The Patriots scored the golden goal with 6:11 remaining when
Jacob Garcia went on a fastbreak and set up a textbook one-touch finish for
Billy Burford.
