Hall Stifles ULM in Game One of Doubleheader

THE LEAD
No. 26 DBU took game one of a doubleheader versus the University of Louisiana at Monroe, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at Horner Ballpark.  Darick Hall led the way on the mound for the Patriots, throwing eight shutout innings and striking out seven, while allowing just three hits.  At the plate, Jameson Hannah and Austin Listi paved the way for the Patriots' offensive attack, as Hannah collected three hits and List drove in a pair of runs.

Listi drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the third that put DBU (12-5) on top 1-0.  Two innings later, Listi extended the Patriots' lead to 2-0 with a sacrifice fly that brought home Justin Wall.  After Daniel Sweet drew a two-out walk, Camden Duzenack was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in the third run of the game for DBU.

Leading ULM (7-10) by three runs in the bottom of the sixth, Hannah ripped a two-out single to left field, plating another Patriot run and staking DBU to a 4-0 lead.   The Patriots would add two more insurance runs in the seventh when Tim Millard laced a double down the left field line, scoring Luke Stratman and then Daniel Sweet on an error by the Warhawks' shortstop, Nathan Reynolds.

ULM's only run came in the top of the ninth, when Nathan Pugh reached base on an error, allowing Anthony Herrera to score from third base.

DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER, ON DARICK HALL'S START ON THE MOUND
"Darick did a great job of filling up the strike zone.  His fastball moves so much and if he locates it well like he did today, it's so tough to do anything with it.  He also allowed us to save our pen for the rest of the series and on any other day would have gone the distance, but with the short turnaround coming up next week, we didn't want to extend him into the ninth."

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Darick Hall's eight innings was his longest outing of the season.
