Record-Breaking Day Leads DBU Past No. 24 Lobos

THE LEAD
On a record-breaking afternoon at Santa Ana Star Field in Albuquerque, New Mexico, DBU scored 33 runs on 31 hits in a 33-8 win over No. 24 New Mexico.  The 33 runs scored breaks the school's all-time record for runs in a game.  The previous record was set on April 21, 2007, when the Patriots touched home 31 times versus UT-Pan American.  DBU's 31 hits also establishes a new school record, breaking the previous record of 26 hits against South Dakota State on April 3, 2010.

In the lopsided 25-run win over the Lobos, DBU (7-3) smashed six home runs, including two each from both Darick Hall and Luke Stratman.  Hall would also drive in six runs on the day and work five innings on the mound to earn the win, while Stratman collected eight RBIs, falling just one shy of tying the school record for most RBIs in a single-game.

In a game in which the Patriots scored in every inning, Hall worked a 12-pitch at-bat in the first inning against New Mexico (6-3) starter, Tyler Stevens, before delivering a three-run blast over the wall in right-center.  One inning later, David Martinelli staked the Patriots to a 7-0 when he followed suit with a towering three-run blast to right for his first home run of the year.

After DBU and New Mexico each scored two runs in the third inning, Hall and Austin Listi both hit solo home runs to ignite a 7-run attack for the Patiots in the fourth.

Leading 16-3 in the fifth inning, Stratman blasted the first of his two home runs when he delivered a three-run shot to left-center.  Stratman's next home run would come two innings later in the seventh on a two-run blast, giving DBU a commanding 27-5 lead.

In the eighth inning, an RBI single from DBU's Jameson Hannah tied the school record for runs and put DBU on top 31-7.  Following a ground out off the bat of Evan Sandmann that plated another run, Tim Millard singled to centerfield to put the Patriots ahead 33-7.

DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER, ON THE RECORD-BREAKING DAY
"They did a great job today.  The one thing I'm really proud of is they kept going and having good at at-bats.  Sometimes when you get a big lead like that, it's easy to kind of just relax a little bit and shutdown and you can't do that against them.  They are a very good hitting team and they showed that by the eight runs they put on the board, so it was good to see our guys keep plugging away."
