DBU Completes Sweep of Lipscomb in 9-1 Win

THE LEAD
DBU completed the weekend sweep of Lipscomb with a 9-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Horner Ballpark. David Martinelli went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, which came on a towering homerun in the fourth inning.

Jordan Martinson (2-0), making the first weekend start of his career, earned the win after striking out five and allowing just one run on two hits in five innings. Brady Puckett (5-2) suffered the loss after giving up seven runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings.

DBU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an RBI single by left fielder Justin Wall and a sacrifice fly by catcher Matt Duce. The Patriots extended the lead to 4-0 in the second, highlighted by a solo homerun by Camden Duzenack, the first of his career. Martinson carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning before a one-out single off the bat of Adam Lee knocked in Lee Solomon.

The Patriots regained a four-run lead in the fourth inning on Martinelli's homerun, and DBU tacked on a seventh run in the fifth on an RBI double by second baseman Luke Stratman. Reliever Dalton Higgins threw three perfect innings through the eighth as the Patriots' lead climbed to eight runs. Freshman Jimmy Fouse closed out the Bisons with a hitless ninth inning in his Patriot debut.

COACH DAN HEEFNER – ON JORDAN MARTINSON'S ROLE
"I think he's gotten an opportunity to really take that role and go with it the rest of the year. Through the years, that's what we've learned. If you want to be great, you've got to have starters with great tempo that pound the strike zone, and you've got to be really good at the end of the game."

JORDAN MARTINSON – ON HIS START
"Fastball location was huge, and I opened the curveball up well. I was just pounding the strike zone with fastballs."

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
-All three DBU starters in the series faced the minimum nine hitters through the first three innings of each game.
- With the sweep, Lipscomb now falls to 0-10 on the road.
-The top three Patriots hitters combined to go 5-for-9 with five RBIs and six runs scored.

IN THE NUMBERS
107 – Camden Duzenack made his 107th consecutive start for the Patriots on Sunday.
2 – The two hits allowed by DBU are the fewest given up since March 14, 2014 (vs. Missouri State).
29 – The Patriots pitching staff struck out 29 Bisons in the series.

UP NEXT FOR THE PATRIOTS
DBU travels to Norman, Oklahoma, to take on Oklahoma on Tuesday, April 5, at 6 p.m.
