THE LEAD
A goal from
Riley Alvey at the 79 minute mark broke a 2-2 tie late in the second half, as DBU defeated Lubbock Christian on Saturday at Patriot Soccer Field. Despite goals from
Brooks Friedman and
David Fraga in the first 45 minutes that staked DBU to a 2-0 lead, the Chaparrals found the back of the net twice in the second half to tie the match before Alvey delivered the game-winning goal.Â
Â
Facing a barrage of shots from the Lubbock Christian offense, DBU goalkeeper
Sean Bouland shutout the Chaps in the first half and finished the match with seven saves. After surrendering two goals early in the second half, freshman
Tyler Hofmann entered the match and kept Lubbock Christian out of the net over the final 19 minutes.Â
Â

DBU HEAD COACH, CHIP DUTCHIK, ON THE TEAM'S RESILIENT WIN
"I'm really proud of how we were able to overcome some adversity in the second half today. Our guys kept going and never panicked. We trusted the process and stayed with our style of play, which allowed us to get some open space on Riley's goal late in the game."
