THE LEAD
The DBU Men's Basketball team extended their season-long win streak to five games in a commanding 103-66 win over St. Edward's in Austin, Texas, on Saturday. Behind a 61-point effort in the second half and a suffocating defensive effort that held the Heartland Conference's top scoring offense to just 66 points, DBU (11-6, 6-2) cruised to a 37-point victory.
Â
Patrick Burke led the Patriots in scoring, pouring in 20 points, while
JT Harris finished one rebound shy of his second straight double-double, finishing with 19 points and nine rebounds. Â
Myles Johnson and
Carter Brown also registered double-digit performances, scoring 18 and 11 points respectively.
Â
In a first half that went back-and-forth between the two teams, DBU took a lead that they would not relinquish when
Boy Van Vliet connected on a jumper to put the Patriots on top 24-23 with 7:45 remaining until the half. DBU would close out the first half on an 18-7 run to take a 40-23 advantage into the locker room.
Â
In the second half, the Patriots shot an astounding 70 percent from the field, while connecting on 7-of-12 shots from three-point range. As DBU ran away from the Hilltoppers (13-9, 5-4) in the second half, DBU took their largest lead of the game when they went up by 41 points with 1:50 left on the clock.

DBU HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON A DOMINATING TEAM PERFORMANCE
"It was an outstanding team effort today on both sides of the floor. St. Edward's is a very well coached team and they were leading the league in scoring and assist-to-turnover ratio, so I thought our guys did a great job defensively. Our bench gave us a huge boost again today and is really starting to be a huge strength for us."
