Patriots Clinch Heartland Conference With Win at St. Mary's

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer team (12-3-2, 10-1-2 Heartland Conference) dominated for 90 minutes as it earned the top seed in the Heartland Conference tournament with a 3-0 win at St. Mary's (6-9-2, 3-8-2) Thursday.

Katelyn Havard opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a breakaway goal. Delaney Schmidt added a header in the 54th minute with an assist from Abigail Olmos. Less than a minute and a half later, Kaci Parks beat substitute goalkeeper Erin Longford from 20 yards out with a shot to the top corner of the net.

The Patriots outshot the Rattlers 16-4 and kept Hope Koym from needing to make a save until the 59th minute. koym and Grace Johnson each made a save as the Patriots picked up their eighth shutout of the year.


THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - The Patriots guaranteed themselves the top seed in the Heartland Conference tournament with the victory.

 - DBU has won eight of its last 10 games, losing only one.

 - St. Mary's is now winless in its last eight games.
