THE RUNDOWN
The Lady Patriots lost in three quick sets at home to Texas Woman's University on Tuesday. It was a hard loss for DBU, as they were playing from behind for a majority of all three sets. It was a tough night for both sides of the ball with the defense only reaching 43 digs compared to TWU's 59, while the offense only reached 25 kills for the match. The blocking remained effective for DBU with the team reaching six blocks for the second straight match, but the team still had a tough time defending the Lady Pioneers attacks.Â
It was a rough start for DBU in the first set. With the help of Lady Pioneer, Makayla Mayfield and a handful of errors committed by DBU, the Lady Pioneers jumped to an 11-5 lead. Despite cutting that lead down, the Lady Patriots would trail the rest of the set before losing it 18-25. The second set ended up playing out very similarly to the first. The score remained close until two kills by Makayla Mayfield and some errors by DBU caused TWU to take a 14-10 lead. DBU fought back to tie things up at 18-18, but the Lady Pioneer's attack was too much and they scored the rest of the points in the set to win it 25-18. TWU would take another big lead early in the third set at 13-7 before extending it to 19-12. The Lady Patriots couldn't get much to fall their way from there and they would lose the set 20-25 and the match 0-3.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Madeline Dolberry ended up having one of the better performances tonight with one block, two digs, and a team-high eight kills. Whenever the offense struggles in a match, Madeline seems to be a spark plug for the group.
- The Lady Patriots have struggled with playing from behind in the past and tonight was no different. Each set they would give up a lead and ended up trying to catch up the rest of the way.
- TWU ended tonight leading in every major statistical category including kills, aces, blocks, assists, and digs.
