Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Starters Shine as Patriots Pull Away From LCU in Second Half

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Basketball team won its seventh straight game Saturday, defeating Lubbock Christian 88-74 at the Burg Center as all five starters recorded at least 12 points. The Patriots trailed by as many as eight points in the first half, but led for the final 30:38, building their lead to 20 with two and a half minutes to play.

A seven-for-nine shooting start from the field for LCU - keyed by Isaac Asrat and Kentton Gilbreath, who combined to score the Chaps' first 15 points - helped the Chaps take an early lead. The Patriots used an 11-0 run, during which Boy Van Vliet and Jordan Manse combined for nine points, to erase a 23-15 deficit and never looked back.

After the Chaps cut the Patriot lead to 50-46 with 18 minutes left in the game, DBU pulled away as it held LCU to two points over a three-minute, 14 second stretch.

Chandler Jacobs led DBU with 18 points in his first career start. Patrick Burke added 16 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the year. Van Vliet was one assist shy of a double-double of his own, finishing with 17 points. Manse scored 13 points, and JT Harris finished with 12.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Thursday's game was the third time this season DBU had at least five players in double figures.
- The Patriots are 7-0 for the first time since the 2008-09 team started 8-0 on its way to an NCAA Regional Semifinal appearance.
- Three of Lubbock Christian's five losses this year have come to nationally-ranked teams.

DBU HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON A STRONG SECOND HALF
"We were able to get some separation by stringing some stops together after about three or four minutes. We weren't great to start the second half, but then we pulled away, and it started on the defensive end."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

76 - The Patriot starters combined for 76 points, which would have been enough to win the game if no reserves had scored.
9 - Chandler Jacobs  has scored at least nine points in six of his seven career games.
.429 - LCU's Isaac Asrat entered the game shooting .564 from three-point range. The Patriots held him to three-of-seven Thursday night.
