DBU Takes Down OPSU Behind Second Half Surge

THE LEAD
The Dallas Baptist University Men's Basketball team defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State University, 110-93, on Thursday night at The Burg Center in Dallas, Texas. After trailing 50-49 at halftime, the Patriots exploded for 61 points in the second half to complete the comeback.

Myles Johnson led DBU in scoring with 22 points on 6-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc to go with four free throws on as many attempts and four assists. Julian Miranda contributed 19 points and a team-high nine assists. Joining Johnson in double digits was Patrick Burke and Brayden Harris, each with 14 points. Burke was 6-for-6 from the charity stripe, and Harris went 7-for-9 from the field along with a team-high four rebounds. Xavier Ledet also recorded four rebounds and scored 12 points on a perfect 5-of-5 night from the field.

OPSU raced out to a 9-0 lead in the first two minutes on three consecutive three-pointers, but the streak was snapped by Johnson's first three-pointer. Johnson hit two more three-pointers back-to-back to spark a run in which the Patriots made 8-of-9 attempts from the field to take a 28-21 lead with nine minutes left in the half. The Aggies responded by sinking six of their next seven shots to tie the game at 37-37. Over the final three minutes of the half, OPSU held DBU to zero field goals and made four straight baskets to take a 50-49 lead into the break.

After starting the second half 0-for-3 from the field, the Patriots converted seven straight field goals to regain a 67-61 lead, scoring their first seven points of the half of turnovers. Shortly after, DBU went on another similar stretch, making six straight to extend their lead to 82-69. After he picked up four fouls in the first half, OPSU's Jace Kerr, the team-leader in PPG this season (14.9) fouled out with 10 minutes to play and just seven points. Riyadh Asad picked up the slack, scoring 28 points in the game, including three straight jumpers in the final minutes of the game. However, the Aggies' efforts were not enough as DBU held on for the 110-93 victory.
