THE LEAD
The DBU Patriots fell behind early at Abilene Christian on Tuesday night, but a steady offensive attack helped the Patriots to their seventh straight win as they cruised past the Wildcats, 11-7. Every DBU (25-15) starter collected a hit on the night as part of a 17-hit parade, with
Evan Sandmann and
Devlin Granberg collecting three hits apiece, while
Camden Duzenack,
Jameson Hannah, and
Garrett Wolforth led the way with two RBI each.
Jimmy Fouse (3-0) was credited with the win in relief of
Trevor Conn and
Travis Stone threw two scoreless innings of relief.

ACU (11-26) was quick to open the scoring against Conn, as the first three batters the right-hander faced on the night reached on singles. Two of those first three batters came across to score to give the Wildcats the early lead but DBU stormed back with runs in three of the next four innings. Sandmann singled in the second inning and scored on a two-out wild pitch, while Granberg and
Logan Sepanek picked up RBI singles in a two-run fourth inning to give DBU an early cushion. Sandmann then collected an RBI in the fifth inning with a sharp single to left field to give DBU a 4-2 lead.

Conn exited the game after four innings, giving up only the two runs in the first inning. In fact, after allowing ACU to score those two runs, Conn faced the minimum throughout the rest of his time on the mound. He retired the final three batters of the first inning and moved through the lineup in order in the second and third innings.

ACU's Dalon Farkas lead off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single, but was erased on a double play grounder to shortstop before Conn induced an easy fly ball to right field to close the frame. In all, the redshirt junior retired the final twelve batters he faced before giving way to
Jimmy Fouse to start the fifth inning.

Fouse immediately ran into trouble with a leadoff walk and the Patriot defense exacerbated the issue with two errors in the frame that allowed ACU to tie the score at four. It would not take long for the Patriot offense to respond, however, as they plated two more runs in the sixth inning with RBI from
Jameson Hannah and
Tim Millard. DBU added to the lead in the following inning when Sandmann walked and
Camden Duzenack followed with his ninth homerun of the season to make the score 8-4 after seven complete.

Wolforth picked up his two RBI in the top of the eighth inning with a bases loaded single and Hannah added his second with an RBI double in the ninth, the fourth two-bagger of the night for the Patriots.
Sean Boyle allowed three unearned runs in the ninth inning to close out the win for the Patriots.
