THE LEAD
DBU claimed their fourth-straight series victory with a 6-1 victory over Bradley on Saturday afternoon at Horner Ballpark.
Jon Skidmore collected three RBI in his first start in a DBU uniform to lead the Patriot offense.
Â
Jordan Martinson (7-3) threw six innings of one-run baseball, allowing just three hits with four strikeouts, to earn the win. Cole Cook (7-5) suffered the loss after giving up all six runs on 10 hits in six innings of work.
Â
Martinson held Bradley hitless through 2 2/3 innings until allowing an infield single to Spencer Gaa that allowed Evan Gruener to score. DBU tied it up in the bottom of the fourth after
Austin Listi led off the inning with a double and came home on a
Matt Duce single. The Patriots went ahead 2-1 on another RBI single off the bat of
Tim Millard.
Jon Skidmore extended the lead to 4-1 with a two-run, two-out single by
Jon Skidmore, who scored on a
Jameson Hannah single to right to cap off the five-run fourth.
Â
The Braves did not record another hit off Martinson until Gaa reached on a bloop single in the top of the sixth inning, but Martinson worked his way out of the frame to finish off his six-inning outing. After a pair of leadoff hits put runners on the corners for DBU in the bottom of the 6
th, Skidmore laid down a sacrifice squeeze down the first-base line that made it 6-1.
Â
Jimmy Fouse cruised through two innings of hitless, scoreless relief with a pair of strikeouts to maintain the 6-1 advantage, before handing the ball over to
Gavin Fritz for the top of the ninth. Fritz

COACH DAN HEEFNER - ON SKIDMORE'S FIRST START
"He's a DBU guy through and through with the way he works and the type of teammate he is and his character. You knew when he got into the game that just him being in there would be a spark for our team. For him to get the two-RBI hit and a great dirt-ball read to get to second and scoring on a single by Jameson, along with the safety squeeze as well. Love seeing him in there, and for him to get three RBI is just icing on the cake."
Â
JON SKIDMORE - ON ENERGY IN THE DUGOUT
"I think every guy is locked in on being a great teammate, and that's one thing Coach Heefner preaches is being a good teammate everyday and you'll give off energy, so that's what we try and do."Â
