THE LEAD
DBU needed just 6 2/3 innings to complete a 10-0 shutout of Prairie View A&M on Tuesday evening at Horner Ballpark.
Camden Duzenack went 3-for-4 with five RBI, led by a three-run homerun in the opening frame, to fuel the Patriot offense.
Trevor Conn (2-2) picked up the win after tossing five scoreless innings with three strikeouts and just three hits allowed. Avery Williams (0-1) suffered the loss after giving up eight runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings of work.
DBU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first off of Duzenack's two-out three-run blast. The Patriots threatened again in the second after a pair of leadoff hits that put runners at second and third, but Williams retired the next two batters before plunking
Austin Listi to load the bases. PVAMU's Andrew Garcia made a diving stop on an
Evan Sandmann liner to leave the bases loaded. DBU put up five in the fourth inning on a pair of RBI singles and a two-run homerun off the bat of
Tim Millard to extend the lead to 8-0 and force Williams out of the game.
Gavin Fritz came on in relief of Conn to begin the sixth inning, who retired the side with a pair of strikeouts in the sixth, before handing over pitching duties to
Kragen Kechely in the seventh. Kechely set down the Panthers in order to continue the shutout. The Patriots tacked on two more on an RBI double by
Devlin Granberg, which put the run rule in effect, giving DBU their 10
th win in 11 games.
