Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Patriots Top Mountain Lions 2-1 for First Win

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer team earned its first win of the season Saturday in a 2-1 victory over Colorado-Colorado Springs. Jayme Woodfill scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute during a frenzied Patriot attack.

After falling behind late in the first half, DBU found the equalizer on the foot of McKenna Namken in the 53rd minute. Summerlyn Heller picked up the assist on Namken's goal.

The Mountain Lions opened the scoring late in the 43rd minute with a goal by Kelsey Lanham. Hope Koym made 4 saves for DBU, while Taylor Proctor stopped 6 Patriot attempts on net.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - The Patriots attempted 16 shots, 8 of which were on goal, quadrupling their shots on goal output from Thursday's 1-0 loss to MSU-Denver.

 - Coach Michelle Lenard used her bench extensively once again Saturday, sending on 11 substitutes.

 - The Patriots scored the first two goals of the year allowed by Proctor, a former Division I and professional basketball player.

DBU HEAD COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SATURDAY'S GAME AND THURSDAY'S

"I thought it was similar in a lot of ways to the last game. We had a lot of momentum and created a lot of chances in the first half. We just couldn't find the final touch that was going to get us a goal. I think we learned our lesson from the last game. We responded in the second half in a much more positive way, not just creating chances this time, ut converting them to goals."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
4 - Mckenna Namken and Brittany Eccles each took a game-high 4 shots for DBU.

7 - DBU recorded 7 of its 8 shots on goal in the second half.

10 - The Patriots recorded twice as many fouls (10) as UCCS did (5).

UP NEXT
The Patriots travel to St. Edward's for a Heartland Conference match at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in Austin, Texas.
