THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer team (4-2 -1, 2-1-1 Heartland Conference) ended its three-game winning streak with a 1-1 tie Thursday night against Newman (5-2-1, 2-1-1)
The Patriots opened the scoring with a header by
Emmy Niece in the 20th minute.
Summerlyn Heller assisted the goal on a corner kick.Â
The DBU lead stood at 1-0 until Newman's Grace Linton was awarded a penalty shot with 3:52 left to play. She converted the try for her Heartland Conference-leading eighth goal to send the game into overtime.
Each team took two shots in overtime, all in the second extra period.
Hope Koym made two of her three saves in overtime.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - The Patriots still have yet to allow more than one goal in any game this season. DBU has never started a season with such a streak longer than four games.
 - DBU and Newman are currently tied for third in the Heartland Conference standings with seven points apiece.
 - After Niece's goal Thursday, eight different Patriots have scored goals this season.
COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON LESSONS LEARNED THE HARD WAY
"I think the lesson for our team tonight is that we have to take advantage of the opportunities that we get. We created plenty of opportunities, both in the first and the second half, but we didn't put those away. We kept it at 1-0, and sometimes things happen... It still comes down to execution for us. We've got to score when we get the chance. It's a painful lesson tonight, but hopefully we'll learn from it."
