THE RUNDOWN
DBU takes a win on the road against Southeastern Oklahoma State tonight to finish their schedule in the South Central Classic tournament. Apparently, winning three sets in a row is becoming a bit of a trend for the Lady Patriots. After dropping the first set 25-21 DBU was able to come back and take the next three sets to win the game.
Â
The first set showed that this was going to be a balanced game between DBU and SE Oklahoma State. Each team had success in scoring consecutive points, as they traded the lead before the Savage Storm was able to take the first set scoring the final five points. The second set saw the Lady Patriots come out strong and they quickly jumped to a 13-4 lead. From there they were able to fight off any comeback attempt from the Savage Storm and they took the set 25-16 and tied up the game.
Â
Tied up 1-1, DBU started the third set fast, but this time the Savage Storm wasn't going to let this one go as easily as the previous set. With the Lady Patriots up 7-4 the Savage Storm scored four consecutive points to take an 8-7 lead. DBU responded with four consecutive points of their own, taking the lead back 11-8. The game remained close later in the set with DBU leading 15-13, but another four-point burst allowed the Lady Patriots to take a 19-13 lead. From there DBU held off the Savage Storm, winning the set 25-21.
Â
The fourth set consisted of each team going on a run only for the other team to match it. The set started close with DBU down 5-6, but a 5-point run allowed the Lady Patriots to take a 10-6 lead. The Savage Storm quickly scored five points in a row themselves and took back the lead 11-10. But the Savage Storm was not done and they later went on another five point run and suddenly DBU was down 14-17. With some ground to make up, the Lady Patriots finished the game off scoring 11 of the game's final 15 points. DBU would take the set 25-21 and they would take the victory 3-1.
