Patriots' Comeback Attempt Comes Up Short at Oklahoma Christian

THE RUNDOWN
No.17 DBU nearly erased a 14-point halftime deficit, but Oklahoma Christian held off the Patriots' late push. A Chandler Jacobs three-pointer cut the lead to two, but that was as close as DBU would come to pulling out the victory.

Jacobs' three capped a two-and-a-half minute stretch that saw the Patriots turn an 11-point Eagle lead into a 71-69 advantage, highlighted by five consecutive points by Patrick Burke. The Eagles made four of their final seven field goal attempts and five of six free throws in the final minute to keep the Patriots at bay.

OCU made eight of 16 three-pointers, including seven of 10 in the first half. The Patriots recovered from a 1-10 first half from distance, making seven of 16 second-half threes in their comeback rally. Jacobs led DBU with 16 points off the bench and eight rebounds.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

- DBU dropped into a three-way tie with Rogers State and Newman for first place in the Heartland Conference standings.
- Oklahoma Christian is now 2-0 against ranked opponents at home, having beaten then-No.4 Arkansas Fort Smith on January 4th.
- The Patriots have lost two straight away games and are now 3-3 on the road this year.

DBU HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE SLOW START ON THE ROAD

"We dug ourselves a hole in the first half and weren't aggressive enough to start. The guys tried to battle back in the second half, but we just never got over the hump. It's a learning experience for how difficult it is to win on the road in this league. OCU is good, and they deserved the win tonight."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
65 - Jordan Box (29) and Elijah Strickland (24) accounted for 65 percent of the Eagles scoring total.
