THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer team fell to Lubbock Christian on Thursday by a score of 3-1 on a chilly day in the panhandle. The Patriots (8-5-2, 7-3-1 Heartland Conference) struck first in the 15th minute, but three unanswered goals by the Chaps (8-7-0, 7-4-0) sealed a season split between the two teams.
Delaney Schmidt found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the year on a through ball into the 18 yard box from Abigail Olmos just over 14 minutes into the game. LCU tied the game shortly before halftime and withstood a barrage of DBU chances while scoring twice more in the second. The Patriots threatened late, but could not muster a second goal.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- DBU has lost two matches in a row for the second time this season.
- Schmidt ties Ericca Everson for the team lead in goals with six.
- Olmos' assist was her second of the year.
COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON A TOUGH ROAD TEST
"It was a tough day for us on the road. We had a good start to the game and felt like we missed some very good opportunities to take a bigger lead. Credit to LCU - they made some good tactical adjustments and caused us some problems. We had to take some risks at the end to try to get an equalizer and unfortunately conceded another goal because of it. We will learn and hope to bounce back Saturday."
