THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer team spoiled St. Edward's' attempt to wrap up the Heartland Conference regular season title Thursday at Patriot Soccer Field. Delaney Schmidt's shot found the upper right corner of the net in the 106th minute to give the Patriots (10-5-2, 9-3-1 Heartland Conference) a split of the season series with the Hilltoppers (10-4-2, 10-2-1).Â
SEU struck early with a goal just 52 seconds after kickoff. The Patriots kept the ball in the attacking end for the majority of the game, however, and found the equalizer 11 minutes after halftime when Elise Royer's lob from 30 yards out found the back of the net as Schmidt's attempt to head it came up short.Â
DBU and St Edward's played into overtime for the second time this season. This time, the Patriots emerged victorious as Schmidt sent the Hilltoppers home without the tie that would have given them the point they needed to secure their hold on the top spot in the Heartland Conference regular seasonÂ
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON AN IMPORTANT VICTORYÂ
"That's a big-time result for our team... I thought we were relentless and never quit pushing. I thought we had the momentum for every minute of that game except the first one when we gave up that early goal. I'm really proud of our response. I thought at some point, we knew we were going to win that game, and we just needed to keep pushing until we did."
