Patriots Drop Heartbreaker at St. Edward's

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer team lost a heartbreaker in its fourth overtime game in as many matches Saturday in a 1-0 loss at St. Edward's in Austin. The Patriots (7-3-2, 6-1-1 Heartland Conference) held the Hilltoppers (7-2-2, 7-0-1) scoreless for the first 102:37, but a header off a deflected free ball resulted in the game-winning goal for St. Edward's.

Playing in its fourth straight overtime contest, DBU outshot the Hilltoppers 3-1 in the first half, but neither side put one on net. St. Edward's outshot the Patriots 6-3 in the second half and 2-0 in overtime.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - St. Edward's takes sole possession of first place in the Heartland Conference, breaking a tie with DBU.


 - Eight of the last nine games between the Patriots and Hilltoppers have been decided by one goal.  

 - DBU and SEU meet again October 25 at Patriot Soccer Field.


HEAD COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON A TOUGH LOSS
"It's a tough way to lose. We've come out on top in those situations earlier in the season. We've just got to find a way to not to continue to put ourselves in these positions. We started to struggle toward the end. We weren't winning the loose balls like we needed to, and they scored a scrappy goal at the end.
