THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer Team advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament with a win over top-seeded No. 4 Colorado School of Mines in penalty kicks Monday in a game postponed a day by snow. The Patriots (13-5-4) withstood a prolific attack by the Orediggers (19-1-2) as
Hope Koym made 11 saves and stopped three more penalty kicks. After good tries by
Jayme Woodfill and
Emmy Niece,
Melanie Castelan's conversion sealed a 3-1 PK win for DBU.
Abigail Olmos gave the Patriots an early lead, beating the keeper with a goal that glanced off the left post and in just less than six minutes into the game with an assist from
Delaney Schmidt. From then on, the defense stood tall for DBU, as Koym made 10 saves in regulation with the help of several blocked shots by the Patriot back line. When all was said and done, DBU withstood 24 shot attempts and 10 corner kicks by the Orediggers, who scored their lone goal in the 65th minute.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

 - The Patriots exacted revenge on Colorado School of Mines, which ended DBU's season in the second round of the South Central Regional in 2017.
 - DBU has won in penalty kicks in two of their last three matches and gone to overtime in nine games this season.
COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON ADVANCING AGAINST LONG ODDS
"What a tough trip for us, coming to Colorado and having to play two games on the road at altitude on a turf field was a huge, enormous challenge for us this week. We're so happy with the result today. Our team really had to grind it out, Colorado School of Mines is a very good team, probably the best team we've played all season. We had an early goal and felt good about the game, but we knew they were going to keep pushing and looking for a goal. And they got an equalizer and made it really hard for us, but we dug deep, we competed, and we rode out the waves they had coming our way."
