Patriots Pick Up First Win of Season Against Monmouth

THE LEAD
No. 11 DBU started the season with a 7-4 victory over Monmouth at Horner Ballpark. The Patriots (1-0) knocked seven extra base hits Friday, including Jameson Hannah's first home run of the year.  MD Johnson earned the win, turning in a five-inning, one-run performance. Johnson allowed three hits, striking out five batters and walking two.

Jimmy Glowenke drove in the Patriots' first run of the night in the second inning, singling up the middle on the first pitch he saw in his career. The Patriots added three more in the third after an RBI groundout by Garrett Wolforth and a two-run infield double by Evan Sandmann.

Hannah's long ball extended the Patriot lead to 6-1, landing just to the right of the newly-installed video board in left field. Monmouth (0-1) closed the gap in the eighth, as John LaRocca and JD Andreesen picked up RBIs.

Hannah drove in another run in the bottom of the eighth with a double to left center. Kragen Kechely finished the game with two innings of one-run ball, surrendering an RBI double to Shaine Hughes with two out in the ninth before nailing down the game with a strikeout.

DBU HEAD COACH DAN HEEFNER ON THE OFFENSE'S START TO THE SEASON

"I think we've got a chance to have a really good offense, to be a complete offense, but I think we could put a little more pressure on them... But the first game is one you like to get under your belt. You get to learn a few things and keep getting better from here."
