Patriots Drop Series Finale to Brown

THE LEAD
DBU left 14 runners on base in a 9-5 loss to Brown in the final game of the weekend series Sunday. The Bears (4-7) scored five times in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach.

After the two teams concluded Saturday's Game 2 that had been suspended due to lightning, Brown struck first for the third time in the series, scoring three times on four hits in the second inning. Matt Duce blasted his second home run of the series in the bottom of the second to cut into the Bear lead.

The Patriots (11-7) battled back, scoring in each of the next two innings to tie the game on Camryn Williams' RBI double. Brown took the lead back in the fifth, scoring a run on a passed ball.

DBU had ample opportunities to tie the game or take the lead in the fifth and sixth innings. The Patriots loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth, but the rally ended before a runner could cross the plate.

In the sixth, Jameson Hannah tagged and tried to score from third on a fly ball to center, but Sam Grigo's throw beat him.

The Bears struck for five runs on four hits in the eighth, capped by a two-run home run. Sandmann drove in two runs in the bottom of the eighth. The Patriots continued to rally, but left the bases loaded without plating another runner.
