THE LEAD
DBU mounted a comeback attempt in the ninth but fell in a 5-2 midweek loss to Baylor on Tuesday night at Horner Ballpark. The Patriots (11-8) loaded the bases in the ninth for Jameson Hannah, who drove home two runs with a single. Devlin Granberg was out by half a step one batter later for the final out.
Baylor (11-7) opened the scoring in the second, scoring three times on four singles, three of which came consecutively. An RBI groundout in the third tacked on another Bear run. Josh Bissonette added Baylor's fifth and final run, leading off the fifth inning with a solo home run.
No Patriot reached third base before the ninth inning. Granberg was the only DBU batter to reach base more than once, adding two walks and a stolen base to a one-for-three night at the dish.
After an error and a walk, Camryn Williams singled to load the bases for Hannah in the ninth. The DBU centerfielder looped a single over the Bear second baseman to drive in DBU's first two runs. Granberg grounded out to short against Baylor closer Troy Montemayor, narrowly missing an infield single that would have extended the game.
