THE RUNDOWN
DBU fell behind in the top of the first for the second straight game but scored 14 straight runs to take down Xavier 14-2 in seven innings Saturday.
The Musketeers (9-17) used a Conor Grammes home run to take a 2-0 lead before the Patriots came to the plate. A sacrifice fly by Matt Duce and an opposite-field RBI single by Jimmy Glowenke erased that lead in the bottom of the frame.
Kody Funderburk settled in after the first, keeping Xavier scoreless across the next three innings. He finished with two runs allowed through four innings on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks in a no-decision.
MacGregor Hines earned his third win of the year, holding Xavier scoreless on one hit over the final three innings of the shortened game.
The Patriots (16-9) took the lead in the fifth when Blayne Jones led off with his first career home run. A bases-loaded single by Tim Millard, a sacrifice fly by Funderburk, and a bases-loaded walk by Hill Alexander filled out a four-run frame for DBU.
As Xavier needed to catch its flight home, the game was called at 2:30 after the Patriots scored eight times in the seventh inning. Millard led off with a solo homer over the Patriot bullpen. Camryn Williams picked up an RBI with a pinch-hit single, and Alexander followed with an RBI single. After Jameson Hannah drove in the 10th run with a sac fly, Devlin Granberg doubled in a run. The game ended after Millard and Matt Duce scored on Funderburk's double to left to make the score 14-2.

COACH DAN HEEFNER ON JONES' FIFTH-INNING BLAST
"That gave us a spark. Their guy was a little different. He was changing speeds on us and had a different arm slot. But Blayne gave us a spark there, and that's kind of been our thing. If we can just battle and grind away, once you get them tired and get to their bullpen, that's when you can really do some damage."
