THE RUNDOWN
DBU won for the fifth straight time, defeating Bradley 13-2 in game one of a three-game series at Dozer Park in Peoria, Illinois, on Friday night. A six-run sixth inning for the Patriots (33-15, 13-3) helped invoke the 10-run rule through seven innings and keep DBU one game behind Missouri State for the top spot in the Missouri Valley Conference standings.
For the second straight game, DBU wasted no time jumping on the board, scoring three runs in the first. After a leadoff single from
Devlin Granberg and a
Jameson Hannah double put runners at second and third to start the game,
Jimmy Glowenke then walked and
Tim Millard singled to drive in the first run.Â
Matt Duce then followed with a sacrifice fly to plate a run and
Garrett Wolforth ripped a base hit that caromed off the pitcher to bring in the third run.
The Patriots added three more runs in the second inning, as
Jameson Hannah started the scoring with an RBI triple. Following a
Jimmy Glowenke sacrifice fly that brought home the fifth run,
Tim Millard hit his team-best 11th home run to make it 6-0.
Bradley (29-13, 11-5) scratched a run off of DBU starter
Trevor Conn in the third to make it 6-1 Patriots. DBU would answer with a run of their own in the fourth to extend their lead back to six.
With the Patriots leading 7-2 in the bottom of the fifth and the bases loaded with one out,
Jarod Bayless came out of the pen to strike out the next two batters and preserve a five-run lead.
In the top of the sixth, DBU erupted for six runs, headlined by a two-run single by
Luke Bandy to give the Patriots a commanding 13-2 lead. Bayless would go on to close out the Braves over the next two innings to hand DBU game one of the series.

DAN HEEFNER ON DBU'S RELENTLESS OFFENSIVE ATTACK
"Our guys did an outstanding job in the first inning. It started with Devlin and Jameson's at bats to start the game and then it just rolled from there. I thought we had good plate discipline all night and were able to put together a lot of productive at bats."
