THE RUNDOWN
DBU completed its sweep of Evansville on Saturday with a 7-1 win. Luke Eldred pitched six innings of scoreless baseball as the Patriots earned their fourth weekend sweep of the year.
Eldred (4-2) earned the win, allowing one hit while striking out five and allowing his first walk of the season. Hill Alexander led off the third with a home run to left center to open the scoring for DBU (31-15, 12-3 Missouri Valley Conference).
An RBI single by Jimmy Glowenke and a sacrifice fly by Matt Duce extended the lead to 3-0 in the fifth. Kody Funderburk's bases-loaded walk in the seventh set up a two-run single by Garrett Wolforth to complete a three-run frame.
A soft single to left field plated a run for Evansville (8-33, 1-14 MVC) in the eighth. The Patriots got that run back on Devlin Granberg's triple to left center in the bottom of the inning.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Alexander's home run was the first of his DBU career.
- Granberg and Funderburk each extended their streaks of games reaching base safely. Funderburk has been on base in each of the last 36 games, and Granberg in each of the last 39.
- Glowenke extended his hitting streak to 12 games.
COACH DAN HEEFNER ON DBU'S SITUATIONAL OFFENSE
"I think we're becoming more diverse as an offense. I think the guys have been doing a good job of taking the extra base when the opportunity is there… It's just another way of being able to put some pressure on them."
