Patriots Complete Season Sweep of Texas Tech in 10-4 Win

THE RUNDOWN
DBU picked up a big road win Tuesday, taking down No. 9 Texas Tech 10-4 in Lubbock.

The Patriots (32-15) struck early with five runs in the top of the first. After the first three batters reached on two hits and a hit batter, Matt Duce drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly. Hill Alexander drove in two with a bases-loaded two out single. Luke Bandy, bunting for a two-out hit, reached on an error that allowed Tim Millard to score. Alexander came around to score on a passed ball to cap off the frame

The Red Raiders (35-15) pushed across a run in the bottom of the first on an infield single, but Kody Funderburk would hold them there until departing with two on and nobody out in the fifth. A one-out double would drive home those two runners, closing the book on Funderburk, who went four-plus innings, allowing three runs on three hits with six strikeouts and four walks.

Each team pushed across a run in the seventh inning. Millard crossed the plate when Funderburk grounded into a double play, but the Red Raiders answered with a walk and two singles to get that tally back. Jimmy Glowenke's two-run home run to right field in the eighth Garrett Wolforth provided insurance with a solo bomb to right center in the ninth inning.

Jordan Martinson provided 2.1 innings of spectacular relief to close out the game. The lefty shut down a Texas Tech rally in the seventh by getting a groundout on his first pitch and threw a perfect eighth inning with two strikeouts. Martinson escaped a second-and-third, one-out jam to keep Texas Tech at bay.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Patriots finished the regular season 5-4 against opponents from the Big 12 Conference.

- Granberg and Funderburk each extended their streaks of games reaching base safely. Funderburk has been on base in each of the last 39 games, and Granberg in each of the last 41.

- The Patriots had never swept a season series of more than one game from TTU.

COACH DAN HEEFNER ON THE PATRIOTS' FAST START

"I think getting on top is a big deal for us. We talked about how many times we had come back, and how we need to be ready to go from inning number one… When you get on top, guys can relax a little bit and play with more confidence than when you're playing from behind.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
.625 – The Patriots' 1-3 hitters reached base 10 times in 16 plate appearances for a .625 on-base percentage.
