THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Soccer opened the 2018 season with a 1-1 tie against Ouachita Baptist on Thursday. Karl Pitkin scored his first goal as a Patriot with under 20 minutes to play in regulation to force overtime.
After a goal in the 31st minute put the Tigers (0-0-1)Â on top, the Patriots (0-0-1) found themselves trailing at halftime. Overcoming a Tiger defense that ruthlessly blocked its shot attempts, DBU found the back of the net as the result of a give-and-go between Austin Soles and goal-scorer Karl Pitkin.
Tristian Olvera made two key saves after halftime, one in the second half and one in the first overtime period, to keep Ouachita at bay.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

 - DBU starts the season with a tie for the first time since 2015.

"We felt like the goal was coming. We thought maybe we were going to get one in the first half. We kept working and working – credit to Ouachita. They defended very hard, and blocked a lot of our shots.
