Box Score THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Soccer team defeated Southwestern Assemblies of God 3-0 Saturday behind a hat trick by captain Riley Unger. The win was the first of the season for the Patriots, who remain undefeated after opening the season with a tie with Ouachita Baptist.
Unger's first goal came on a strike from the right side midway through the first half. It would prove to be the only goal of the opening period.
Less than five minutes into the second half, Unger headed a lob from Josue Vazquez into the net for his first career two-goal game. Moments later, a Lion infraction led to a penalty kick for Unger, who converted it to complete the hat trick.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - Unger's hat trick was the first by a Patriot since Riley Alvey scored three times on September 5, 2015, against Southwest Baptist.
 - The Patriots have defeated SAGU 3-0 in back-to-back meetings.
 - Tristen Olvera recorded his first shutout as a Patriot.
DBU HEAD COACH CHIP DUTCHIK ON UNGER'S BIG DAYÂ
"Riley Unger's our captain and the heart and soul of our program. Jokingly, he hasn't scored a lot for us, because we've played him as a holding midfielder, and we give him trouble. But for him to get a hat trick and to get it in the way he did, we're really excited for him."
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
1 – Unger entered the game with one career goal to his credit.
2 – Vazquez's assist was the second of his career.
2 – Unger's and Alvey's hat tricks are the only two in program history.
