The Lady Patriots (3-2) defeated Union 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-19) in their first game of the Reddie-Tiger Challenge on Friday morning inside the Duke Wells Center. Senior
Cooper Martin led DBU with 11 kills and a .474 hitting percentage, while Senior
Kasey Holand posted 9 kills and a service ace. Freshman
Sofia Black added three kills and a dig, while junior
Strealy Sizelove registered a team high 18 assists and 8 digs.
The opening set was knotted up at three before DBU never trailed again. Union stayed within striking distance of the Lady Patriots but could not regain the lead throughout the set. Senior
Cooper Martin added three kills of her own as DBU went on an 8-3 run to seal the first set, 25-18.
In the second set, the Lady Patriots jumped out to a 13-6 lead before the Bulldogs rallied to with a 3-0 run making it 13-9. After a DBU substitution, trio of errors from Union helped DBU go on a 7-4 run making the score 20-13. DBU called a timeout up 20-16 and didn't look back. After the break, the Lady Patriots finished the set on a 6-5 run to end the second set, 25-21.
DBU took command from the beginning leading throughout the final set.
Cooper Martin recorded five kills and freshman
Sofia Black added a pair of her own. The Lady Patriots scored the final three points to sweep the match 25-19 over the Bulldogs.
