THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer team improved to 2-0 in Heartland Conference action Saturday with a 3-0 win over St. Mary's at Patriot Soccer Field. Delaney Schmidt scored twice as the Patriots (2-2-1, 2-0-0) held the Rattlers (1-2-1, 0-2-0) without a shot on goal.
With the St. Mary's goalkeeper out of position, Schmidt followed up a shot by Katelyn Havard that bounced off the cross bar for the first goal of the game. Less than four minutes later, Schmidt headed in a cross from Havard to increase the DBU lead to 2-0.
Emmy Niece found the back of the net with 31 minutes to play on a header on a corner from Kaci Parks to conclude the scoring.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - Schmidt now has two career two-goal games.
 - The Patriots' 30 shot attempts were their most in a game since October 31, 2015, against Texas A&M International.
 - DBU has now won five straight games against St. Mary's and has not allowed a goal to the Rattlers since 2016.
DBU HEAD COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON A 2-0 START TO THE CONFERENCE SCHEDULEÂ
"I really feel like all the work we've put in is starting to pay off. We played well at the front end of the season, but some of that stuff just wasn't clicking yet, so now we feel like we're hitting our stride. We're scoring the goals we're supposed to be scoring, and we're a little sharper defensively. We feel confident moving forward."
