THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer team extended its winning streak to three games – all within five days – with a 1-0 win at Texas Woman's on Monday. Delaney Schmidt scored the lone goal less than four minutes into the game, and Hope Koym saved all three shots on goal.
Schmidt found the back of the net with a header from inside the box on an assist from Katelyn Havard just 3:59 into the game. That goal would prove to be all DBU (3-2-1) would need, as Texas Woman's (3-3-0) only mustered three shots on frame the entire night.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Schmidt now has three goals in her last two games.
- The Patriots have won three straight after starting the year 0-2-1.
- Monday's game was a make-up of a previously rained-out game originally scheduled for September 8.
DBU HEAD COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON A HARD-FOUGHT WIN
"I'm really happy with the team's fortitude and perseverance tonight to earn a win. We knew it was going to be tough, since it was our third game in five days and that we would have to grind it out at moments. It was great to get an early goal, and we were unlucky not to have a second goal, but we did what we needed to win."
