THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer team won its fifth straight game Saturday, defeating Lubbock Christian 4-1 in soggy field conditions. Ericca Everson scored two goals as the Patriots (5-2-1, 4-0-0 Heartland Conference) strengthened their hold on the top spot in the Heartland.
Abigail Olmos picked up her first goal of the season on a sliding shot attempt from the right corner of the six yard box in the 19th minute on an assist from Delaney Schmidt. Everson found the back of the net in the 36th minute, cleaning up a cross from Summerlyn Heller to bring the score to 2-0 at the half.
In the 66th minute, Everson followed a lob pass from Jayme Woodfill up the left side of the field and crossed the LCU keeper for her second goal of the game. The Chaps (2-6-0, 1-3-0) avoided a shutout by converting a penalty kick with less than three minutes to play, but Tiarra Hodges' first goal of the year came 59 seconds later on Schmidt's second helper of the afternoon.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - Everson is the third Patriot with a multi-goal game in the last five games.
 - The Patriots are the first team to score more than two goals on LCU this season.Â
 - DBU remains undefeated against LCU at 8-0-1 since 2004.
DBU HEAD COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON HER TEAM'S EFFORTÂ
"Overall, I'm really happy with the outcome of today's game. We got off to a slow start. The field conditions made it difficult for us, and Lubbock Christian came out fast and made it difficult. But I'm really happy with the way my team responded. We had to improvise and play outside of our normal style of play a little bit, but we had some players step up and play well today."
