DBU Captures Fifth Straight Conference Tournament Title

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer Team won its fifth consecutive Conference Tournament Championship Saturday, defeating St. Edward's 2-1. The No. 1 seed Patriots (17-0-2) dominated 52 percent of the possession in the contest, eliminating second-seeded St. Edward's (13-5-2).

Emmy Niece converted a penalty kick in the 21st minute giving DBU the 1-0 lead for the time being. Sarah Gunderson then answered for the Hilltoppers in the 37th minute to tie the game 1-1. In the 58th minute, Jenna Patterson sent a cross in from outside of the box that connected with Delaney Schmidt who buried her tenth goal of the season, sealing the 2-1 victory for the Patriots.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - DBU will make its sixth straight trip to the NCAA Regional and its eighth in nine years.
 - The Patriots are one win away from tying a program record (18) by the 2012 squad.
 - DBU is the only team in the South Central Region to win the conference regular season and conference tournament.

COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON WINNING THE LONE STAR TITLE
"I can't say enough about how proud I am of my team. Give credit to St. Edward's, they're always well-coached and well prepared. We knew we were going to have to show up and play our best today. We felt at halftime it was just about making the final pass and executing in the final moment, and we knew that would be the difference maker for us. Overall proud of the girls for their resilience to get through it and get the win."

GOALKEEPER HOPE KOYM ON STAYING FOCUSED LATE
"I think we did a great job of showing and keeping our composure. Once we start panicking that's when we go away from our style of play. We have to calm ourselves down every chance we get, take a breath and slow it down. We're constantly talking to each other and encouraging each other. It's a constant team effort to keep everyone focused and play our best."
