No. 13 DBU Tops Howard Payne for Program Record 9-0 Start to Season

THE RUNDOWN
The Patriots outpaced the Yellow Jackets of Howard Payne 103-74 Saturday afternoon in a historic victory for the program. DBU's ninth consecutive victory to open the season set a new school record, while senior guard Carter Brown moved into first place in all-time steals with 195.

DBU was able to turn the first half into a track meet, sprinting on every possession and generating 19 turnovers while living on Howard Payne's end of the hardwood. The Patriot's pace clearly pressured the Yellow Jacket defense, as DBU found the charity stripe 14 times in the opening twenty minutes in route to a 44-point offensive outburst. DBU continued to get out and run in the second half, with multiple half-court assists leading to uncontested Patriot dunks and layups.

Conner Lidiak lead the offensive charge on a scorching-hot 70 percent shooting while Chandler Jacobs cleaned up the glass with a team-high 11 rebounds.

HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE WIN
"I thought we were good defensively overall, we generated a lot of turnovers, but I think we needed more charges, some more of those 50-50 hustle plays that are required to be great. I think today was a good opportunity for some of our young guy with a thinner lineup. Every game from here on out only gets tougher and we are looking forward to the extra home games."
