THE RUNDOWN
DBU suffered a 69-59 loss in the Heartland Conference Championship Sunday afternoon in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the hands of No. 9 St. Edward's. Despite a few Patriot runs, a hot-shooting second half from the free-throw line helped the Hilltoppers hold the lead for the entire remainder of the contest. The Patriots cut the lead to five with 4:53 left in the ballgame, but clutch free-throws from August Haas and Dorian Lopez' team-high 25 points was too much for DBU in the end.
St. Edward's held the Patriots scoreless for a near five-minute stretch in the second half which proved to be costly as the Hilltoppers defense forced 11 steals on the day. DBU shot 42.6 percent from the field but couldn't put it together from beyond the arc going 8-of-20.
Zach Lord added a team-high 13 points of his own, one point less than his total against Oklahoma Christian last game.
Chandler Jacobs added 12 points and six assists.
JT Harris posted 10 points and had a team-high 10 rebounds.
COACH FLICKNER ON DBU'S EFFORTS THIS WEEK
"I'm proud of my team and the way we kept battling all week long. We were able to cut it to five by getting stops playing how we play defensively. I'm very proud of the resiliency these guys have shown to play together and represent the university well. The resiliency they showed in our character and they way they continued to be selfless was a good thing."
