THE LEAD
Houston took a late lead Sunday for the third straight game, but DBU answered with a five-run seventh inning to salvage a game of the weekend series at Horner Ballpark. After the Cougars (10-8) took the lead with a four-run sixth inning, the Patriots (14-5) put together a five-run, four-hit rally that gave them the lead for good.
Redshirt freshman
Zach Heaton allowed one run on four hits through 5.1 innings. He struck out one batter and walked none on an economical 56 pitches. Sacrifice flies ni the third and fourth innings provided him with a 2-0 lead. All four Cougar runs scored in the sixth after Heaton made his exit.
The Patriots regained the lead on
Jimmy Glowenke's two-run single and added a pair of insurance runs on
Evan Sandmann's two-run double into the right field corner in the seventh.
Luke Bandy added a solo home run in the eighth to close out the scoring.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - Heaton's start was the first of his career.
 - Four of DBU's first five hitters collected two hits. The other,
Bryce Ball, drew three walks.
 - The Patriots avoided being swept at home for the first time since 2013.
COACH DAN HEEFNER ON A LACK OF EXECUTION
"That showed a lot of toughness. It had been a rough weekend up to that point. It was kind of a punch in the gut to have a lead and give it up the way we did. And so for them to come back and score five, I thought that showed a lot for our club, and I think sometimes in the course of a season you have turning points, and I hope this weekend was."
