THE LEAD
DBU used late heroics to edge out Bradley in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader at Horner Ballpark.
Jimmy Glowenke's eighth-inning base hit drove in the winning run and
MacGregor Hines stranded the tying run at third to preserve a 7-6 win.
The Braves (24-12, 4-5 Missouri Valley Conference) took a 4-0 lead by the middle of the third inning before the Patriots (27-12, 6-3) began their comeback.
Andres Sosa drove in a run with a single in the bottom of the second inning and hit a two-run home run in fourth to cut the lead to 4-3.
Burl Carraway entered the game in the second inning and held Bradley scoreless for the next 3.1 innings. The sophomore lefty struck out eight batters and walked one while allowing just two hits.
Christian Boulware's two-run single gave DBU a 5-4 lead in the fifth, but Bradley tied the game in the seventh and regained the lead in the eighth.
Bryce Ball's single through the right side drove in Sosa with the tying run in the bottom of the eighth. The next batter, Glowenke grounded the first pitch he saw through the hole between short and third to plate
Herbert Iser with the eventual winning run.
Hines earned the win with 1.1 innings of no-hit relief. With the tying run 90 feet away, he struck out the final two Bradley batters to end the game and clinch the series for DBU.

COACH DAN HEEFNER ON HIS TEAM'S TOUGHNESS
"I think this team has been trying to find its identity all season long. We had a long talk about it this morning, and that was DBU baseball again. That's what we're used to seeing: the competitiveness, the two-out stuff, getting down and coming back, doing that multiple times. With runners in scoring position for them, we've got guys making pitches and clutching up. That's what I was most pleased with."
