Patriots Even Series With Offensive Outburst

THE LEAD
DBU took advantage of a strong wind blowing out to center and wildness from the Bradley pitching staff in a 14-3 win Saturday to even the weekend series and set up a rubber match in the second game of the doubleheader at Horner Ballpark. Jackson Glenn tied a season high with six RBIs and was a double short of the cycle as MD Johnson held the Braves to one run through six innings in a run-rule shortened game.

The first three Patriot batters of the game walked to set up an RBI single for Glenn. DBU (26-12, 5-3 Missouri Valley Conference) scored twice on one hit in the first with the help of four walks. Glenn's three-run home run highlighted a five-run second inning that also included a double steal by Augie Isaacson and Luke Bandy on which Bandy would score after the call on the field was overturned on replay. Glenn added a two-run triple in the third inning.

Even with a stiff breeze blowing out, Bradley (24-11, 4-4) had no answer for MD Johnson, who struck out six batters in six innings while walking none and allowing just four hits. The lone run Johnson allowed came in the fourth on a Dan Bolt solo home run.

Bandy and Isaacson hit back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth inning. The Patriots ensured the MVC 10-run rule would take effect with a three-run sixth inning capped by Jimmy Glowenke's two-run double.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

 - Bryce Ball became the first Patriot to draw four walks in a game since Austin Listi on June 3, 2016 against New Mexico.
 - Glenn has four home runs in his last four games.
 - Bandy's steal of home was DBU's first since Camryn Williams did it against UT Arlington on March 28, 2017.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

9.3 - The Patriots average 9.3 runs per game in games immediately after scoring two or fewer.
19 - Augie Isaacson stole his 19th base of the year, tying him with Austin Krum's 2006 and 2007 campaigns for the seventh-most in a single season in DBU's Division I era.
10 - The Patriots tied a season high by drawing 10 walks.
