Patriots Use Speed to Win Third Straight 7-1 at UTA

THE LEAD
DBU closed the month of April with a 7-1 win at UT Arlington at Clay Gould Ballpark on Tuesday. After a one-hour, 45-minute weather delay, the Patriots (31-13) knocked 11 hits, and eight pitchers held the Mavericks (28-18) to one run on five hits.

The Patriots took their first lead of the game in the third inning after Augie Isaacson walked, stole second and third, and scored on Blayne Jones' bunt single. The Mavericks tied the game in the bottom of the frame, but Christian Boulware drove in two of his three runs on the night with a fourth-inning single to retake the lead for DBU.

Isaacson tripled to lead off the fifth and scored on Andres Sosa's sacrifice fly. The Patriots padded their lead in the eighth with an RBI double by Jackson Glenn, an RBI bunt single by Luke Bandy, and an RBI double by Boulware.

Seven Patriot relievers combined to throw 6.1 innings of scoreless relief with eight strikeouts and three walks. Jimmy Fouse earned the win, as he went 2.1 innings and allowed just two baserunners.

The feel-good moment of the game came in the seventh inning, when Ray Gaither made his season debut after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2018. Gaither struck out the first batter he faced, withstood a glancing line drive off the shoulder, and worked around a walk for a scoreless inning.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - The Patriots have won three straight midweek games.
 - Isaacson became the first Patriot to triple and steal two bases in the same game since Drew Turbin on March 21, 2015.
 - Glenn's double was his first since March 31.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
3 - The Patriots collected three bunt hits Tuesday.
2 - After his fifth two-steal game of the year, Isaacson is two away from tying DBU's Division I era single-season steals record.
- Fouse's outing was his second of the year throwing at least 2.0 innings and allowing no runs.

UP NEXT
DBU heads to Springfield, Missouri to take on the Bears of Missouri State in a Missouri Valley Conference series. First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 6:00 pm at Hammons Field.
