Patriots Take Down No. 19 TCU 11-6

THE LEAD
DBU prevailed in a back-and-forth contest with No. 19 TCU on Tuesday at Horner Ballpark, pulling away late in an 11-6 win. The Patriots (23-9) tied a season-high by drawing 10 walks as Cole Reeves earned the win in his first career appearance.

The Horned Frogs (20-11) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but that lead was short-lived, as Bryce Ball scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Andres Sosa's infield single drove in Augie Isaacson with the go-ahead run. TCU retook the lead in the third and threatened again in the fourth with the bases loaded and nobody out, but Reeves entered the game with reigning Big 12 player of the Week Jake Guenther at the plate and coaxed a weak popout and a double play to escape the inning unscathed. Herbert Iser's sacrifice fly plated Austin Bell with the tying run in the bottom of the fourth.

Conner Shepherd homered in the fifth to give the Horned Frogs their third lead of the game, but a wild bottom half of the inning resulted in the Patriots taking the lead right back. With Christian Boulware at the plate and the bases loaded, Jackson Glenn and Blayne Jones scored on the same wild pitch. Boulware then punched a single through a drawn-in infield to score Augie Isaacson.

Back-to-back home runs by Josh Watson and Jake Guenther tied the game in the sixth, DBU answered with four runs of their own to take the lead for good. Isaacson took a slider off the foot with the bases loaded and came around to score when Hunter Vansau reached on a three-run, three-base error.

After Burl Carraway walked the bases loaded with one out in the seventh, he blew away the final two hitters in the inning to keep the horned Frogs off the board. Iser luanched his fifth home run of the year over the hitter's backdrop in center field to put the finishing touches on the victory.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - The Patriots have beaten three ranked opponents in 2019.
 - Blayne Jones extended his hit streak to 19 games.
 - Iser moved into second place on the team with his fifth homer of the year.

COACH DAN HEEFNER ON REEVES' DEBUT
"He was huge for us. We really need a pick-me-up in the bullpen, and he's been wanting that for a long time, and he got it and took full advantage. He had the bases loaded and nobody out with their best hitter up, and he pops him up and gets a ground ball... That's a pretty tough way to start your career, but he could not have done a better job."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
17 - Augie Isaacson stole his 17th base of the season, putting him one behind Ryan Olivo for ninth-most in a single season in the Division I era.
10 - The 10 walks DBU drew were the most allowed by TCU pitching this season.
18 - With Tuesday's 11-strikeout performance, the Patriots have struck out 10 or more batters 18 times in 32 games this year.
