Missouri State Edges DBU in First Game of Doubleheader

THE LEAD
DBU and Missouri State limited all the scoring to the third inning in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday in a 4-3 MSU win at Hammons Field in Springfield, Missouri. The Patriots (32-14, 9-4 Missouri Valley Conference) jumped out to a 3-0 lead on three hits in the third, but the Bears (14-31, 5-9 MVC) answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Jackson Glenn's two-run single opened the scoring in the third, followed by Evan Sandmann's RBI base hit. Missouri State scored two on a single with the help of an error, and took the lead on a two-run home run by Ben Whetstone.

MD Johnson finished the day with 5.1 innings pitched, striking out six batters and walking two while allowing four runs on seven hits. Burl Carraway kept the Patriots close with 2.2 innings of scoreless, no-hit relief.
