DBU Secures First Win of the Season at Oklahoma Baptist

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer team earned its first victory of the season Saturday afternoon in a 2-1 win over Oklahoma Baptist. Delaney Schmidt and Kenzie Spodnik each scored as DBU (1-0-1) held off the Bison (1-1) for the remainder of the match.

Schmidt scored the first goal in the 12th minute on an assist from Kaci Parks. The Bison went onto score on a penalty kick to even the match up at 1-1 going into halftime.

Brittany Eccles found Kenzie Spodnik in the 68th minute who then buried the go-ahead, and ultimately game-winning goal in the top left corner of the net. DBU outshot the Bison 10-6, and won the total possession battle by 14 percent, 57 to 43.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
  - With Spodnik and Schmidt's goals, five different Patriots have scored in two games.

 - The Patriots attempted five corner kicks opposed to OBU's one.

 - DBU earned their first win in the state of Oklahoma since October 20, 2018.

DBU HEAD COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON DBU'S FIRST WIN OF THE YEAR
"We are happy to finish the trip out with a win. Going on the road opening weekend and playing two games in 90 degree temperatures in the middle of the day is a tough way to start. We learned a lot about ourselves this weekend and we still have a lot to learn but this team has tremendous potential. We had to grind it out today but it will only make us better in the long run."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
1 – DBU stayed disciplined offensively, being called offsides once during the match.

57 – The Patriots controlled possession for 57 percent of the match.

4 – Hope Koym remains undefeated on the year, and saved four shots.

UP NEXT
DBU heads to the Aloha state for two games against Hawaii Pacific on September 12, at 7:00 p.m., and Chaminade starting at 1:00 p.m. on September 14.
